Our Mission

The purpose of Ruth’s Place Clinic is to provide free medical
and other family services as needed to indigent, low income, uninsured, or underinsured families.
Who We Are
Ruth’s Place, a 501 (c) 3 organization, is a collaborative effort between the organizers of Ruth’s Place Clinic, the United Way of Hood County, Lake Granbury Medical Center, the Hood County Hospital District Board, Granbury First United Methodist Church, local volunteer doctors and nurses, and various local businesses.
What We Do
The organization’s unique model offers a holistic approach to rural healthcare for uninsured or underinsured families as well as other resources for lower income families. This is done through collaboration with numerous resource entities available in Hood County and intensive case management with the families.
The model also targets children with behavioral or emotional problems as well as children living in difficult family
situations because of a behavioral or emotional problem in a caregiver. This program is HAND IN HAND. The goal is to help the child by helping the entire family as a unit.
Ruth’s Place doctors provide medical services for children and adults. We also provide “well woman” checkups.
Ruth’s Place
volunteers operate a once-a-week food pantry at its Maplewood facility. We partner with Granbury First United Methodist Church in this project. The Church purchases the food and delivers it to Ruth’s Place. Volunteers then sort and distribute to our lower income families.
Ruth’s Place partners with Stonewater Church to provide other services to families in the community served by our Maplewood facility such as yard cleanup, trash hauling, light carpentry work, etc.
How We Do It
Ruth’s Place Clinic employs the services of a caseworker, translators, and staff. Volunteer doctors, with the help of volunteer nurses and aides, see adult and children patients at the clinic. Lake Granbury Medical Center and Hood County Hospital District Board contribute ancillary services as needed. The Board of Directors is made up of community leaders including doctors, school district staff members, church lay persons, just to name a few.
Why We Do It
If you judge people, you have no time to love them…..Mother Teresa
The goal of Ruth’s Place is to build a stronger community by providing much needed services to its most vulnerable residents. By doing this we can truly begin to change lives on a long-term and lasting basis.

What’s Next
We’ve started plans to open a dental clinic. These services will be for indigent and low income families. Dr. Elizabeth Berry is overseeing this program.
